Obituary

Gloria Jean McGee was born on August 12, 1949 in Florence, Alabama to the late Martha Joan Clare and the late Derland McGee.
Gloria received her early education in the Florence City School System. She graduated from Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama. She continued her education in Nursing where she received a Bachelors of Science from the University of North Alabama and a Masters of Science from the University of South Alabama. Gloria was a PhD candidate in the field of Instructional Design.  Some of her previous employment included educating future nurses and CNAs in high school and at the college level. Other employment included director of Mental Health for Marion and Lake Counties, Coordinator for Developmentally Disabled Individuals in Tuscumbia, caring for geriatric patients and many other humanitarian positions.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha Joan Clare; maternal grandparents, Vandy and Opha May Michael; father, Derland McGee; paternal grandparents, Freddie S. and Della McGee.
She is survived by her husband Al'Caeus Wright who she married on February 1st, 1992, and remained married for 33 years until her death; children, Tiffany Slaydon (Daughter), Michael McGee (Son), Heide McGee (Daughter-in-Law), Joshua Wright (son), Alyssea Vaughn (Goddaughter); grandchildren, Madison Harrell, Corey Harrell, Ashtian Harrell, Kevin McGee, Taylor McGee, Saige Pinegar, Sailor Pinegar, Lucas Pinegar, Bradley McGee, Cooper McGee; sisters, Deanna Cain and Melonie Richardson; sisters-in-law, Voncelia Amos, Hattie Asber, and Eunice Murrell; brothers-in-law, Dale Cain, Gene Richardson, Homer Amos, Elder James Wright, David Murrell, Henry Asber Sr.;  and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Gloria accepted Christ at an early age and renewed her spiritual walk later in life. She practiced her faith by helping the homeless, working with the elderly and anyone who was in need.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 6, 2025, 1-3 PM at Elkins Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Monday, 11 AM at Elkins Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 10-11 AM. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Lexington.
