Obituary

Grafford Wallace passed away suddenly from heart complications September 1, 2008, while working on his farm. His children are at peace knowing he is now in the arms of Jesus and his loving wife, Virginia, who passed away November 8, 2007.
His family will receive friends Wednesday evening at Elkins Funeral Home from 6-9 pm. His graveside service will be Thursday afternoon at 3:00 pm at Cloverdale Church of Christ Cemetery with Nolan Burns officiating.
Grafford was born in Lauderdale County to his late parents Owen and Lillie Wallace, and raised in Cloverdale. He met his wife, Virginia, and they married July 6, 1951. They were devoted to one another for 56 years. Grafford was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and he was called "Poppa" by his grandchildren and "Shorty" by the ones who knew him most. He was a lifelong faithful member of Hyde''s Chapel Church of Christ. He enjoyed growing and sharing his produce with everyone. Anyone that knew Grafford would say his passions in life were Virginia, his farm, animals, and children. He retired after 21 years of service as a mechanic at the University of North Alabama.
Grafford was preceded in death by his infant brother, Gifford, and sister, Annie Nell Abernathy.
He is survived by his loving daughters Martha Johnson (Jackie) of Cloverdale, and Nancy Webb (Randy) of Central; sons David Wallace (Darlene) of Cloverdale, and Tony Wallace (Laura) of Muscle Shoals; four grandchildren Heath Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Bradley Wallace, and Ashley Wallace; and one nephew James Abernathy.
Pallbearers will include Randy Marks, Randy Webb, James Abernathy, Heath Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Bradley Wallace, Colt Abernathy, Cody May. Honorary bearers will be Pat Patterson, J.P. Statom, Wilburn Bates, Richard Behel, and Larry Holt.
His children want to express their thanks to Dr. Joel Rainer and Dr. Wm. A. Hobbs and staff for their kindness and the medical care shown to their dad.
