Hazel Imogene "Jean" Gorman, 77, of Decatur passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Parkway Medical Center.
Jean was born April 25, 1935, in Salem, Ind., to Wincel Alva Knight and Rose Lee Cole Knight. She was a devoted military spouse for 20 years, retired from Wood Reels in 1992 as a line worker and homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, affectionately known as "GG". Her passions in life were gardening, genealogy, and spending time with family.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Weathers Funeral Home in Salem, Ind. The service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Alfred Eugene Gorman and one great-granddaughter, Anna Sons. She is survived by two daughters, Debra J. Shaffer, Sandra L. Sons and husband, Mike, all of Decatur, and one son, Patrick A. Gorman of Haymarket, Va.; seven grandchildren, Mike Sons, Josie Hopkins, Andrew Shaffer, Jeremy Sons, Steve Sons and Katie Shaffer, all of Decatur, and Arianna Gorman of Haymarket and 11 great-grandchildren, Bradley Hopkins, Lori Sons, Sara Beth Hopkins, Caden Sons, Lily Shaffer, Tucker Hopkins, Luke Sons, Abby Sons, Landon Sons, Madelynn Sons and Lucy Sons and one great-grandchild due in January.
Pallbearers will be her son and grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association .
Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home assisted the family.
