Funeral for Herbert J. Neher, 92, of Decatur will be today, Oct. 23, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel followed by a private burial in Decatur City Cemetery. Dr. Bill Hurt will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mr. Neher, who died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at NHC Healthcare of Moulton, was born April 15, 1917 in Jackson County to Willis Brubaker Neher and Annie Jackson Stogsdill Neher. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Decatur. He was employed for over 40 years at the Alabama Brick & Tile Co. He served in World War II in Company B of 171 Combat Engineer in Alaska and France. He loved the outdoors and spending time at his second home in New Meadows, Idaho. Survivors include one niece, Sandra Hardt of Huntsville; one nephew, Gerald Neher Jr. of Decatur; and five great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Home.
