Mrs. Hilda C. Waddell, age 97, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the home of a daughter in Huntsville. Mrs. Waddell, affectionately known as "Miss Hilda", was a devoted Christian and had a zest for life. She loved people and enjoyed sharing her famous pizzelles with others. She was preceded in death by her husband Oswald Waddell, children Janice and Johnny Flanagan, and grandson Stephen Flanagan. She had been a lifelong resident of Rogersville until 2001 when she moved to Huntsville. The visitation will be Saturday at Elkins East Chapel Funeral Home beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Her grandson Rev. William Plott and Dr. Bertis Ray will officiate. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. In Huntsville, a time of visitation will be held beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Whitesburg Baptist Church (main campus) with a memorial service following at 5:00 p.m. Mrs. Waddell is survived by daughters Ramsey Williams and husband Phillip of Huntsville, and Mary Lou Moritz and husband Charles of Stafford, Texas; a son Jesse Waddell and wife Shirley of Huntsville; a daughter-in-law Martha Flanagan of Rogersville; twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
