Hobart Jeffrey "Sonny" Dowdy, age 78, of Florence, passed away on Friday December 25, 2009 at ECM Hospital.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday December 29, 2009 at 11 am in the chapel of Elkins Funeral Home of Florence. Bro. Greg Davis will officiate. Burial will follow in Tri Cities Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday December 28, 2009 from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Dowdy is preceded in death by his parents, Hobart M. and Grace Dowdy. He attended Valley Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Dowdy is survived by his loving wife, Ara Marie Dowdy of Florence; his daughters, Donna Kay Dison of Florence and Charlotte Borden and husband Leon of Tuscumbia; his son, Jeffery Lyn Dowdy of Auburn, AL; his sisters, Wilma Stutts and husband H. L. and Mary Alice McClure and husband Jim, both of Florence; his grandchildren, Christie Borden Jackson and husband Jason, William Leon Borden, Jr. and wife Rebecca, and Tiffany Borden; and his great grandchild, Mackenzie Simpson.
