Horace
Holland
August 5, 2021
Horace Holland, 87, died August 5th, 2021, at his home in Florence, Ala. Horace was born on May 16, 1934 in Elkmont, Ala. He was the son of the late Georgia and James Holland. He met his wife, Betty Holland, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage, in Carlsbad, NM.
Horace lived a vibrant life full of success and stories. As a young man, he broke horses and worked in the potash mines of New Mexico. Soon after, he became a successful businessman founding and operating numerous businesses throughout the south. Retiring in his mid 40s, Horace turned to investing and developing real estate and continued his adventures becoming a cattle rancher out west. In his later years, Horace raced sailboats competitively and served as a commodore of Muscle Shoals Sail Club. Everyone who knew Horace appreciated his advice, stories, and friendship and his love of Alabama football.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Kathy Kelly, wife of Ron, and Patty Horn, wife of Keith; brother David Holland, husband of Betty; sister-in-law Lela Williams, wife of Joe; grandchildren Nicholas Holland, husband of Brandi; Garrett Bailey, Wes Martindale, husband of Lorien; and Amy Harvey; great-grandchildren Jordan Harvey, Brayden, Grayson and Sophie Holland, and Julia and Vivien Martindale.
He was predeceased by two sons: Jimmy and Joel Holland.
Horace never liked being the center of attention and per his wishes there will be no services. We all know how much Horace loved hummingbirds, so all who wish to honor his life are invited to hang a hummingbird feeder at their home.
