Obituary

Howard Paul Thompson, 87, of Greenhill, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 14, 2012.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Lone Cedar Church of Christ with Tim Grigsby officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Elkins Funeral Home, Florence, is assisting the family.
Mr. Thompson was a carpenter and was retired from Bullock Builders and worked for many years in boat manufacturing. He served in the US Army during World War II. He loved music and enjoyed playing and singing for his family and as a young man played at WLAY with his brother, Marvin.
Howard loved his family, his children, and was affectionately known as "granddaddy" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a former member of Jackson Heights Church of Christ and was a member of Lone Cedar Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Reba Nell Thompson; children Sarah Wright of Florence, Stan Thompson (Mylene) of Killen, Debbie Brown of Kissimmee, Florida and Don Thompson (Lesa) of Killen; grandchildren Rebecca Sledge of Killen, Christy Baker (Marty) of Killen, Mitch Brown (Kelli) of Winchester, Kentucky, Mandy McCall (Chris) of Kissimmee, Florida, Bethany Gargis (Wes) of Killen, Daniel Thompson and Jenna Thompson of Killen; great-grandchildren Cameron Wright of Killen, Chasity Baker of Killen, Courtney Sledge of Killen, Braxton Baker of Killen, Brown McCall of Kissimmee, Florida, Ayden Gargis of Killen, Knox McCall of Kissimmee, Florida and Myles Gargis of Killen; brother Roy Thompson (Barbara) of Muscle Shoals; sister Ellen Hill of Florence; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents James M. Thompson and Louella LeMay Thompson and brothers William, Jonas, Junior, Marvin, Melvin, Brancel and Allen Thompson.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
