Funeral for Howard Jurome Townson, 62, of Decatur will be Thursday, September 15, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Townson, who died Monday, September 12, 2011, at Decatur General Hospital, was born May 19, 1949, in Alabama to Dutch Townson and Ola Mae Hamilton Townson. He owned and operated Townson Bait & Tackle in Decatur for the last 19 years and previously was a self-employed contractor. He loved his family deeply, and was a wonderful friend to the "Bait Shop Boys" and many others. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ola Mae Shirah and stepfather, Bill Shirah; brothers, Doyle Townson and Jackie Townson; and niece, Dee Dee Townson.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Hampton Townson; daughter, Georgia Townson Alfaro (Brian) of Fort Worth, Texas; sons, Brad Townson of Fredricksburg, Va., and Sam Townson of Decatur; grandchildren, Mason and Blake Alfaro; brother, Lewis Townson; and sisters-in-law, Wanda Townson and Jennie Townson.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Cure Search for Children's Cancer.
