Hubert James Powell Decatur
Funeral service for Hubert James Powell, 86, of Decatur will be Thursday, December 23, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Chris Pressnell officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Powell, who died Saturday, December 18, 2010, at his residence, was born July 6, 1924, in Cullman to Jim Powell and Correny Russell Powell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Battery B 67th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion and earned a Sliver Star. After the war, he worked at Goodyear Mill in Decatur, retiring in 1979 as a Shift Foreman in #2 Twisting. In his later years, he enjoyed growing vegetables, working in his flowers and watching his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Barbara Powell and Frances Powell Sandlin; brothers, Jimmy Powell and Hollis Powell, all of Falkville.
Survivors include his wife, Robbie James
Powell; two sons, Tim James (Glendora) and Ricky James (Peggy); two daughters, Sheron James Terry (Donnie) and Sherry James Jones (David), all of Decatur; grandchildren, Donnie Terry II of Huntsville, Heather James (Rich Staniszewski) of Castle Rock, Colo., Misty James and Amanda James of Northport, Ryan Jones and Austin Jones of Decatur; one sister, Virginia Powell Edge (Jerry) of Falkville; two brothers, Ed Powell (Dorothy of Falkville and Noah Powell of
Folkston, Ga.; nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
