Hugh L. Robinson, Jr., age 62, of Florence, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday July 25, 2009 after an extended illness at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday July 28, 2009 at 2 pm in the chapel of Elkins Funeral Home in Florence with Carl Gebhardt, Laura Hutchinson, and Tom Youngblood officiating. Burial will follow in Tri Cities Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on that day from 12 pm until 2 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Robinson was a retired U. S. Postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving 2 tours of duty with the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Robinson was a Past Master of the Florence Masonic Lodge, a member of the Mid Lauderdale Volunteer Fire Department, and a volunteer with the American Red Cross.
Mr. Robinson is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh L. and Mary Eliza Haddock Robinson.
Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, Suzette Robinson of Florence; his daughters, Christine Gaither (Ron) of Alexander City, AL, and Gwen Foote (Brandon) of Florence; his son, Hugh "Rob" L. Robinson III (Tamara) of Florence; his sister, Jibby Stockard (Mike) of Birmingham; and 4 wonderful grandchildren whom Pop dearly loved.
Pallbearers will be Don Ross, Tod Willingham, Steve Landers, Ricky Brewer, Leon Nale, and Mike Vick.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the 3rd floor ECM CCU staff, the 5th floor Nurses at ECM, the ECM Respiratory Department, Dr. Edsel Holden, and Dr. Lyman Mitchell for going above and beyond in taking care of Mr. Robinson during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Florence, the Mid Lauderdale Volunteer Fire Department, or to the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
