Hunter Dow Stone, age 83, of Florence passed away on Saturday June 13, 2009 at Mitchell Hollingsworth Annex.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday June 16, 2009 at 11 am at Edgemont United Methodist Church with Eric Bagwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 am until 11 am on that day at the church. A graveside service will follow at 4 pm at J. Warren Cemetery in Plant, TN.
Mr. Stone was an agriculturist with TVA from 1955 until 1988. He attended school at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Tennessee. Mr. Stone grew up in Sardis, MS where he played on the Sardis High School football team. He was a decorated Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Corps where his fellow airmen nicknamed him "Smokey". Mr. Stone enjoyed hunting, playing golf, traveling, and studying genealogy. He was also a member of the Florence Golf and Country Club.
Mr. Stone is preceded in death by his lovely wife of 53 years, Blanche Stone, his parents, Hugh and Ruby Stone, and his daughter, Ina Carmine Stone.
Mr. Stone is survived by his daughter, Virginia Lynn Stone Morris and husband Thomas of Mt. Washington, KY; his sons, Hugh Stone and wife Betty of Muscle Shoals and Harry Stone and wife Jamie of Hazel Green; his sisters, Maxine Johnson of Sardis, MS, Marie Porch, Louise Mathias, and Billie Hugh Carman, all of Waverly, TN; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made to Park Place, Morningside Assisted Living, Mitchell Hollingsworth Annex, or to the Edgemont United Methodist Church.
