Mrs. Holcombe died on Oct. 13, 2014, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. She was born on July 6, 1934, at home on Second Creek near Lutts, in Wayne County, Tenn., to Marvin Lindsey Hinton and Louise Estelle McFall Hinton.
Iva Dell grew up on a rural Tennessee farm in a family that believed in the value of hard work. A graduate of Collinwood High School, she loved school and learning and continued her education throughout her adult life. Two of the most important events in her life happened on the same day, April 20. On that day in 1957, she married Herschel Holcombe, the love of her life, and in 2001 on their 44th wedding anniversary, he passed away in her arms in the home they built together on Second Creek in Lauderdale County, Alabama. She was curious, lively and notorious for pulling pranks and telling jokes. She was a constant source of joy, even in the waning years of her life after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer''s disease. She loved reading, writing, cooking, gardening, and handwork, and was particularly talented at embroidery, quilting, and crocheting. She was a member of Williams Chapel Presbyterian Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Charles Herschel Holcombe; her brother, Gordon Hinton and his wife, Annie Hinton; and her brother-in-law, Bobby Joe Ticer.
She is survived by her sons, Terry Holcombe and wife, Sarah, of Wesson, Miss., Dwayne Holcombe and wife, Lisa, of Waterloo, and Bryan Holcombe and wife, Ginger, of Florence; her granddaughter, Mary Beth Angel and husband, Drew, of Florence; her grandsons, Kyle Holcombe of Liberty, Texas, Daniel Holcombe, of Wesson, Chase Holcombe and Luke Holcombe, both of Florence; her great-grandson, Colton Angel, of Florence; her sister, Frances Ticer Palmer and husband, Doyal, of Florence; her brother, Freeman Hinton and wife, Eva, of Lutts; and many beloved nieces and nephews, and other family members.
Pallbearers are Kyle, Daniel, Chase and Luke Holcombe, Drew Angel, and Anthony Hinton. Colton Angel is honorary pallbearer.
Memorials may be made to Williams Chapel Cemetery Fund or Centneary Cemetery Fund.
