Funeral for J. Lynn McCollum, 80, of Mount Hope will be Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Old Town Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. R.C. Borden and the Rev. Barry Carter officiating.
Burial will be in Old Town Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 5:30 to 8 at Elliott Funeral Home.
Mr. McCollum, who died Saturday, April 3, 2010, was born September 24, 1929, in Lawrence County to Charlie Clay McCollum and Etta Mae Pruitt McCollum. He was a member of Old Town Creek Baptist Church. He was retired from TVA after 30 years of employment. He was a Mason and loved hunting, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Kittie Lee McCollum; two grandchildren, Bentlee Sloane and Rylee Sue; three brothers, Shelby McCollum, Paul McCollum and J.B. Odom; five sisters, Mae Lynn Copeland, Merlene Copeland, Geneva Dunn, Vernell Smith and Francis Pounders.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty McCollum; two sons, Mark McCollum (Mary Beth) of Decatur and Luke McCollum (Cindy) of Cullman; four grandchildren, Mackenzie Ann, Mary Charles, Chandler Claire and Elijah Clay; two brothers, L.C. Odom and Jack Odom; and two sisters, Esther Porter and Imogene Smith.
Pallbearers will be Hudson Copeland, Millard Copeland, Tommy Parker, Johnny Riggs, Jack Odom and Lucian Copeland.
