Mr. James William Dickerson Sr., 79, of Florence, died Thursday, December 24, 2009, after a brief illness.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 27, 2009, from 6 -9 PM at Elkins Funeral Home of Florence. The service will be Monday, December 28, 2009, at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel with Brother Henry Melton and Mike Nash officiating. Interment will follow in Florence City Cemetery.
He was retired as a service manager with Ford Motor Company. A 1949 graduate of Coffee High School. A member of the Elks Lodge and Faith Church. He loved his family and friends and was an avid Alabama football and NASCAR fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Newton Dickerson Sr. and Velvie Ester Painter. Brother; Jesse Newton Dickerson Jr., Maternal grandparents; William and Elizabeth Johnson Lovelace, Paternal grandparents, John and Sallie Cross Dickerson.
He is survived by his children, Brenda Borden, James William Dickerson Jr., Sherry Slaton and husband Tom, Lorinda McCutchen and husband Rusty. Grandchildren;Jason Dickerson, Chris Dickerson, Shannon Mosely, Chad Mosely, Charron Wilbanks, James Borden, Whitney Rupley, Ashley James, Amber Hammond, Alex McCutchen, Megan McCutchen and Sara McCutchen. 12 Great-grandchildren, 1 niece and 1 nephew.
Pallbearers will include Jason and Chris Dickerson, James Borden, Chad Moseley, Donald and Joe Eddie Melson. Honorary bearers will include Steve Davis, Eric Balentine and friends at Family Ford.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Casey, Dr. Kahn, Dr. Paul, Dr. Webb and to the nurses in Palliative care. And to the nurses on 2nd floor at ECM Hospital. We would also like to thank our many friends for their prayers, love and support.
