Mr. James Elton Campbell, 86, of Lexington, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at El Reposo Nursing Facility.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel Funeral Home. Bro. Tommy James and Bro. Mike Nash will officiate. Burial will follow in Pettus Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until service time at the funeral home.
He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed farming. Mr. Campbell was a member of the Lexington United Methodis Church. He had been the Supervisor of Surplus Foods for Lauderdale County for several years. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Campbell is survived by a daughter Jean Ann Beavers and husband Charles, Lexington; a son Gary Campbell and wife Teresa, Florence; grandchildren Steven Beavers, Lexington, Leigh Ann Downs and husband Jeff, Rogersville, Shaun Campbell and wife Sarah, Florence and Seth Campbell and wife Rebecca, Florence; great grandchildren Collin Downs, Madelyn Downs and Hannah Campbell; sister Arthel Gist, Lexington; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Edith Marie Pettus Campbell; parents Edward and Maggie Campbell, and by sisters Burchell Campbell and Doris King.
Pallbearers will be Steven Beavers, Jeff Downs, Shaun Campbell, Seth Campbell, Roger Pettus and Dwight James. Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Danley, Thomas Smith, Bradley Putman, Lelond Balch and Sedric Pettus.
