A graveside service for James Claude "Jim" Rodgers Jr., 76, of Decatur will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Dr. Todd Evans officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Mr. Rodgers, who died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Summerford Nursing Home, was born Sept. 9, 1931, in Winston County to James Claude Rodgers Sr. and Jessie Mae Holsomback Rodgers. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years and in the U.S. Army and National Guard for 33 years. During his service, he was in the Korean War and retired as a master sergeant with the National Guard. He retired from Monsanto with over 30 years of service. His son, James Claude "Jim" Rodgers III; and sister, Dawn Mitchell, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Jean Rodgers; three sons, Jay Rodgers and Jeff Rodgers, both of Decatur, and Joe Rodgers and his wife, Kathy, of Kimberly; one daughter, Susan McClendon and her husband, Chuck, of Decatur; one sister, Beverly Cole of Decatur; six grandchildren, Beth Dillard, Becki James, Katey Rodgers, Joe Brian Rodgers, Jonathan Rodgers and Ashley Pruitt; and five great-grandchildren.
