James Harwood Johnson, age 80, of Florence, passed away on Saturday May 30, 2009 at ECM Hospital.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday June 3, 2009 at 3 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Florence with Dr. Richard Gillespie officiating. The family will receive friends on that day from 1 pm until service time in the church fellowship hall.
Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Auburn University and a proud member of the Phi Delta Pheta Fraternity of Auburn. He was a diehard Auburn fan. Mr. Johnson was an insurance agent for 56 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Florence and also was involved in the Florence Rotary Club, the Florence Industrial Board, the Elk''s Club, and Turtle Point Country Club.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lynn Johnson of Florence; his son, James Harwood "Woody" Johnson, Jr. and wife Chizuko of Tokyo, Japan; his daughters, Elizabeth "Lisa" Johnson Bentley and husband Danny of St. Louis, MO and Victoria Johnson Weatherby of Florence; and his grandchildren, Claire and Mary Katherine Bentley, Nicholas and Will Weatherby, and Sakura Johnson.
