James Boyd Moore, Sr., of Florence, Alabama died Sunday, December 4, 2011. He was 73.
The visitation will be Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. John J. McKell will officiate. The graveside service will follow in the Altoona-Walnut Grove Cemetery in Etowah County, Alabama at 4:00 p.m. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Vandiver Moore; his son James B. Moore, Jr. and his wife Liz of Pelham, AL; his daughter Mari Gunnels and her husband Chris of Birmingham, AL; his four granddaughters Jacqueline, Maggie, Parker and Rachel as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents Rufus Benjamin and Ora Belle Moore and his sister Doris Jean Wissler.
He was a Past Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge #14 F. & A.M. He also served as District Lecturer for the Masonic Lodge in Colbert and Lauderdale counties. For many years he was a member of Woodmont Baptist Church. In recent years he was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.
Jim retired from TVA after 30 years where he held various positions. He was a devoted husband, loving father and faithful friend. He finished strong and has joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in eternal glory.
Pallbearers will be Mike Moore, Keith Scott, Cris Wissler, James C. Vandiver Jr., John Offutt and John Riedel. Steve Seale, William Strickland and members of the Masonic order will serve as honorary bearers.
