Funeral for James C. Payne, 77, of Hatton will be Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Bro. Sam Wallace, Bro. Scotty Brackin and Andy Chamness officiating. Burial will be in Ferguson Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Payne, who died Monday, January 4, 2010, at NHC Healthcare of Moulton after a lengthy illness, was born January 19, 1932, in Lawrence County to Joe W. Payne and Katie Terry Payne. He was a member of Okalona Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Charles Payne. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nell Dawson Payne; one son, James Rene Payne of Hatton; two daughters, Renita Payne Chamness (Marion) of Hatton and Carmalita Payne Coan (Randall) of Mount Hope; three grandsons, Andy Chamness (Hope), Wesley Chamness, Jesse Coan and one granddaughter, Sarah Beth Coan; five sisters, Mebalean Kirby and Violet Box, both of Courtland, Margaret Harper of Moulton, and Ann Carter and Sue Payne, both of Florida; two brothers, Vernon Payne of Maryland and Bradley Payne of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Marion Chamness, Randal Coan, Andy Chamness, Wesley Chamness, Jesse Coan and Mikey Kirby.
