James P. "Perk" Smith

James P. "Perk" Smith, 80, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ridout''s Brown Service Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Danny Gibson will officiate. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery, located south of Danville. Visitation will be at the funeral home tomorrow evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Smith was born October 4, 1936 in Lawrence County to Allen Smith and Lillian Gibson Smith, who both precede him in death. He is also preceded by one sister, Dorothy Day, and two great-grandsons.

He loved all his great-grand babies and his gardening. He also loved feeding the birds and was a loyal Alabama Football fan.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Charlotte Smith; one son, Michael Smith; two daughters, Tira Vest (Steve) and Sonya Jasso (Sal); two brothers, Ray Smith and Lloyd Smith; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren
