James Thornton, 74, of Rogersville passed away Sunday February 4, 2018 at ECM. Visitation will be at Elkins East Chapel Tuesday February 6, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00P.M. A chapel service will be held Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Elkins East Chapel. Brother Marty Mosley will be officiating. Burial will follow at Hill Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora-Dell "Sis" Thornton; infant son, Phillip Wayne; infant daughter, Tammy Rene; parents, Kents and Virgie Thornton; and 9 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by son, Mike Thornton (Debbie); daughter, Sonya Bates; grandchildren Colby Thornton (Emily),   Adrienne Thornton, Cory and  Ethan Dean, Zoe and Jessi Bates; great grandchildren Carson and Reese Dean, Greyson Thornton, and Kolton and Emma Thornton; brothers, Neal and Richard Thornton; sisters, Lill Crosswhite and Katherine Roach .

He was a member at Springfield Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be; Colby Thornton, Cory Dean, Ethan Dean, Jacob Mitchell, Todd Shook, Christopher Roberson, Tyler Newton, and Lee McKissack.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff and nurses of the 5 ^th Floor at ECM, Dr. Holden, and friend Gary Eddie.
