Obituary

James C. Vandiver, Sr., 91, of Altoona, AL. passed away June 6, 2008 in Florence, AL.
Mr. Vandiver was born in Wylam, AL. and moved to Altoona in 1949 where he farmed and worked as a pipe fitter for Republic Steel Corp. until his retirement in 1981. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Holland Vandiver and his son-in-law, Dr. David Jordan.
He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Moore and husband James, Peggy Jordan, Sally Teague and husband Mike and his son James C. Vandiver, Jr. and wife Karen, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and his very special friend Hellice White.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Billy York officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Church. Interment will follow in the Altoona-Walnut Grove Cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial gifts to the United Methodist Children's Home, St. Jude Hospital or to the charity of your choice.
