Jan Carol Post Stubblefield lived with an eye for grace, a heart for hospitality, and an innate gift for making the world around her more beautiful. Jan, 74, of Florence, Alabama, passed away on October 8, 2026, leaving behind a rich legacy of devotion, warmth, and generous service.
Born on November 30, 1951, in Victoria, Texas, to the late Herbie and Janice Post, Jan grew up deep in the heart of Texas, and she remained a Texan at heart all her life. After graduating from Victoria High School, she attended the University of Texas at Austin. On the first day of spring in 1971, she married the love of her life, Edwin Mark Stubblefield, beginning a journey of more than five decades that spanned two continents, four states, and twenty moves.
Jan had a rare creative spark that turned every house into a home. She understood that beauty has a quiet power to bring comfort and peace. She could often be found tending her garden, gathering fresh blooms, and setting a breathtaking table for the people she loved most. She delighted in marking life’s occasions, and birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and family dinners will never be quite the same without her.
Above all, Jan loved Jesus, and her friendships were where that love was easiest to see. Her faith was not something she kept to herself on Sunday mornings. She lived it out in the way she loved people. Twenty moves might have left another person with a trail of goodbyes, but Jan left a trail of lifelong friendships. In every new town she found a church home and her people, and she never let go of the ones she left behind. Her friends knew they could count on her for a good laugh, steady loyalty, honest counsel grounded in Scripture, and the promise that she was praying for them, a promise she kept. She was firm in her convictions and tender in her care, living out the truth of Proverbs 17:17: “A friend loveth at all times.”
That same love for Christ carried her far beyond her own circle. With a servant’s heart, Jan was a dedicated leader and longtime member of Women of Vision, pouring herself into lifting up communities in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Philippi, West Virginia. Her devotion to the Gospel took her across the world on three mission trips to Africa, where she shared the hope of Christ with compassion and open arms. Jan now rests in the arms of the Savior she served so faithfully, and those who love her take comfort in knowing they will see her again.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Mark; her children, Todd (Kiley) and Sara (David); her sisters, Nancy Murphy and Katie Long; and her beloved grandchildren, Sophia, Austin, Liam, and Emma, each of whom brought immense light and laughter to her life.
A celebration of Jan’s life will be held at 2:00p.m. on Thursday, October 29 at First Presbyterian Church of Tuscumbia.
