Janet Hunter Downie, age 85, of Florence will have visitation Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 1pm till 2:30pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Service will follow at 2:30pm at the Church with Rev John McKell and Rev Don Mims officiating. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. "She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hand holds the spindle. She extends her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her hand to the needy." Proverbs 31: 19-20. Janet, beloved daughter of William A and Jane S. Robertson of Edinburgh, Scotland, entered into her eternal rest on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Janet was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Robert Downie. She is survived by her son, Trevor Downie, his wife Lynn, grand daughter Sarah, two sisters, a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Mum never wavered from her labor of love, serving the needs of others, through her service to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Florence, and P.E.O. She was actively involved in too many compassionate organizations to list. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society of Greenville, SC, or P.E.O. A memorial scholarship fund may be established at a later date.
