J.F. "Rusty" Smith

Graveside service for J.F. "Rusty" Smith, 94, of Decatur will be Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at 4 p.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Steven Arndt officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Smith, who died Friday, July 31, 2009, at home, was born Feb. 6, 1915, in Limestone County to Kirby D. Smith and Mollie Tyler Smith. He retired as the owner of J.F. Smith Insurance Agency in 1977. He was an active member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church until it closed. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances; five brothers, Raymond, Dalton, Malcolm H., Elvin and C.W. "Bo"; and one sister, Bessie. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Christine Shankle Smith. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or to your favorite charity.
