Mrs. Mary Jo Joiner Parkhurst, of Florence, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011.
Mrs. Parkhurst was a retired teacher and Curator of Pope''s Tavern Museum. She was a member of the Alamance Chapter DAR and a member of ADK. She was a faithful member of Woodmont Baptist Church where she taught the "JOY" Sunday School Class and helped with Sunday Call and In-Church Ministry. She enjoyed reading and studying God''s word and praying for her family, her friends, and others.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 12:00 p.m. at the Woodmont Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Bryant Strain will officiate. The family will visit with friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Parkhurst is survived by her children Patricia Joiner Barger and husband Dan of Florence, Sarah Joiner Blankenship and husband Michael of Harvest, Alabama, A.E. Joiner, Jr. and wife Penny of Florence, Brenda Parkhurst Cochran and husband Bill of Florence, and Andrew Parkhurst and wife Candy of Florence; grandchildren Stephanie Luman and husband Jonathan, Adam Jacobson, Amy Jacobson, Ashley Joiner, Ann Collins Joiner, Aaron Joiner, Parke Cochran and wife Julie, Katie Cochran, Corrie Summerville and husband Joe, William Parkhurst, Huston Parkhurst, Peyton Fanning and husband Lee, Leslie Bagwell and husband Travis; great-grandchildren Bryce Gautney, Brynna Gautney, Charlie Cochran, Parkhurst Cochran, Rosemary Cochran, Jay McAbee, Jenna McAbee, Joseph McAbee, and Tide Bagwell; many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Parkhurst was preceded in death by husbands Aaron E. Joiner and Andrew J. Parkhurst, and a sister Susan Batts.
Pallbearers will be Albert Heaslett, Eddy Garner, John Young, Bill Cochran, Alex Nelson, Mark Nelson and Scott Goodsell. Tim McAlpin will serve as an honorary bearer.
The family offers thanks to Dr. Grant Allen, Rebecca Watts, Susan Balentine, Elaine Hagler, Charlotte Cramer, the EMS responders, the ECM Emergency Room staff and the Woodmont Baptist family.
