Joe Bob Stephenson, 84, graduated to his heavenly home May 26, 2015. He was born in Opp, Alabama on November 6, 1930 to Joel Robert Stephenson, Sr. and Edith Gilchrist Stephenson, was raised in Brantley, Alabama the majority of his childhood.
Mr. Stephenson was preceded in death by his parents, named above, and Louise Pugh Stephenson, stillborn infant daughter.
Survivors, blessed by his memories, include his wife of 58 years, Nelda Pugh Stephenson; his daughter, Emily S. Broussard and her husband, Alan; his son, Joel Robert Stephenson, III and his wife, Cyndi; his sister, Mary Price Warren of Adel, Iowa; his 4 grandchildren, Sarah Broussard Muse (Donny), James "Isaac" Broussard (Makenzie), Joel Robert "Jay" Stephenson, IV, and Samuel Cross Stephenson, all of Florence, Alabama. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Mr. Stephenson graduated from Brantley High School, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1950-1954. He was honorably discharged after obtaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer, Aviation Electrician, stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas. Upon returning home, he graduated from Auburn University in 1956 with a degree in Agriculture.
Moving all over the state of Alabama over the years, Mr. Stephenson had many jobs including County Extension agent for several counties, 4H coordinator, farm equipment and supply sales and insurance sales, until he became a Biologist for TVA, where he remained until retirement for health reasons. He became an avid outdoorsman, enjoying any type of hunting, fishing, woodworking, taxidermy, cooking for family and friends, gardening, and was well known for his tomatoes. He attended any and every school and sporting event involving his grandchildren. They all have fond memories of Pop being their biggest fan.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 30 th, at the Woodmont Baptist Church Chapel, Florence, Alabama, beginning with visitation at 3:00PM, celebration service to follow at 4:00PM, officiated by Dr. Eddy Garner. Mr. Stephenson chose to be cremated, interment will take place at a later date in Brantley, Alabama.
