Obituary

John Everett (Johnny) Sandlin Jr., born April 16, 1945 in Decatur, Al, made his transition September 19, 2017.

Sandlin was a musician, recording engineer and record producer who helped create the sound of Southern Rock working with some of the music greats throughout the country. At the time of his death he worked as an independent producer in his Decatur studio, Duck Tape Music . His work earned him five platinum and ten gold albums and a place in the Alabama Music Hall of Fame

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Everett and Lucille Compton Sandlin and a brother, Howard Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Anathalee Gray Sandlin, three daughters, Leigh Ellen Cauthen (Britt), Kristin Ann Spain (Bruce), Heidi Anathalee Barger (Jeff), six grandchildren, Sandlin Graham (Zach),Ella Cauthen, Reid Cauthen, Gray Cauthen (Brittany), Avonlea Spain and Noah Spain, four great grandchildren, Grady Graham, Murron Graham, Wyler Graham and Navy Grace Cauthen.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home. A public musical celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
