Mr. John Philip (Jack) Murphy, 76, of Florence, AL (formerly of Branford, CT) passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at ECM Hospital. A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, Florence, AL, on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 3 pm. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, J. Philip Murphy and Helen Neal; brother-in-law, John R. Witkowsky; and sister-in-law, Tracy Neal. Jack is survived by his beloved wife Ann Witkowsky Murphy, Florence, AL; devoted children, Susan Murphy Glasso (James) Florence, AL, and Peter John Murphy (Tammy), Wolcott, CT; grandchildren, Alexander Philip Murphy and Tyler John Murphy, both of Wolcott, CT;brother, Kenton Neal, Guilford, CT; sister, Linda Neal, Franklin, CT; niece, Diane Theroux (Danny), CA; and nephews, John Witkowsky (Tiffanie), North Branford, CT, Scott Witkowsky, North Branford, CT, and Keith Neal, Branford, CT. He was a long time computer analyst, most recently for Saab Scania of America, Inc. and a sales associate at Goody''s Hardware. He graduated class of 1950 at Branford High School and attended the University of New Haven. Jack also served in the Connecticut National Guard in the tank company, and was a former volunteer fireman with Company 8 and social member of Company 9 in Branford, CT. He was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of Branford, CT, where he served as an usher. He also attended First Christian Church in Florence, AL. Jack was an avid UCONN Huskies men''s and ladies basketball fan, loved golf, jazz, and spending time with his family. His family wishes to give a special thanks to Dr. Felix Morris, Dr. Robert Webb, and the nursing staff on the 6th floor at ECM Hospital.
