John William Pugh, 72, of Elgin, AL passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013 at ECM Hospital. Born October 8th, 1940 in Limestone Co, he grew up in Decatur and attended Decatur High School.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 4, at 1:00pm at Elkins East Chapel. Memorial service will follow at 2:00pm. Internment will immediately follow at Dement Cemetery. Services will be officiated by the Reverend Carol Goforth.
Survivors include wife Shirley, son Byron (Jenny), granddaughter, Abigail. He was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Thelma Pugh, sisters, Mary Ella Pugh and Geraldine Hartzog, and grandson Matt Pugh.
The old well is still visible where the home of his birth once stood on Hwy 72, and he would happily point it out on every trip past it. John served in the US Navy from 1958 - 1961 at Port Hueneme, CA. He had a deep love for his friends, family and especially his grandchildren. He was an avid Alabama Football fan and faithfully supported his team.
