Funeral for John Riley Speegle, 73, of Decatur will be Friday, August 15, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Reverend Dallas Culver officiating. Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Speegle, who died Tuesday, August 12, 2014, was born December 12, 1940, in Walker County to Carl and Ellen Speegle. He was a member of Austinville United Methodist Church. He retired after 30 years from Mead Paper Mill in Stevenson. Mr. Speegle enjoyed shag dancing and was a member of the Beach Shaggers of Birmingham. His wife, Louann, was the love of his life. He adored his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time at Smith Lake.
Survivors include his wife, Louann; two daughters, Shari Sandlin and her husband, Mike, and Janine Davis and her husband, Bob; two stepsons, Allan Kent and his wife, Karen, and Michael Kent; six grandchildren, Riley Vaughn, Jarett and Britt Sandlin, Trey, Katie and Blake Davis; five stepgrandchildren, Michael, Tessa and Carly Kent, Andrew and Kathryn Kent; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Speegle (Mary Lou) and Roger Speegle (Linda); and four sisters, Jean Dailey, Carolyn Warren (Don), Glenda Gressett (Stanley) and Kenda Reeves (Johnny).
