The funeral service honoring the life of Johnnie I Summers, Florence, AL will be at Elkins Funeral Home, 1535 Hermitage Dr, Florence, AL on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Visitation from 11am to 1pm. Service to follow in the chapel at Elkins Funeral Home. Rev. Kevin Johnson will be officiating the service. A brief prayer and scripture to follow at TriCities Memorial Gardens, Florence, AL at the pavilion.

He passed peacefully from his earthly home on July 26, 2026 to dwell in his heavenly home with our Lord.

He was a resident of Florence, AL since 1963. Graduate of Colbert County High School in 1959. He worked the majority of his working years as a small machine mechanic in the textile industry in north Alabama. He then worked with Montreat Apartments as an attendant at the facility where he got to know and appreciated meeting and greeting many residents and family members. Then he served as a volunteer with ECM and North Alabama Medical Center for a number of years where his joy of interacting with people around him was something he looked forward to every week like clockwork. He loved his church family at First Baptist of Florence.

Johnnie was survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth Summers and son Jonathan Summers (Amanda). Grandsons Collin and Cameron Summers.

Johnnie's parents were the late Marion O'neal Summers and Gertrude Grimes Summers. His loving sisters were Melba Burney, Betty Ann Travis, Margie Campbell, Jane Blackmon, and Annie Lee Pettijohn. His brothers were Tommie Summers, Rutledge Summers, and Charles Summers.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Summers, Collin Summers, Cameron Summers, Billy Sanderson, Marion O'neal Summers, Robbie Trousdale, and Greg Peden

His loving family and friends, coworkers, and classmates have all been a joyous part of his life and he has held dear these relationships over the years.

In lieu of flowers, First Baptist Church of Florence will accept donations that can help facilitate church repair plans to further their love of the Lord and ministry to our community.
