Obituary

It is with a heavy broken heart that I must tell you that our brother Jon B. Barkley, Jr. has died.  His heart finally stopped.  We as a family cannot thank the EMTs and Caregivers enough for their attempts to save him.  Our loss is Heaven's gain.  As most of you know Jon was a Special Needs guy.  He did not speak and had the mind of a 2 year old child.  Those were not his disabilities those were his strengths,  He never said the wrong thing to anyone.  He always had the joy of a child, and love for his family and friends.

The last Six years have been a special blessing to me.  I got to spend so much more time with Jon either visiting him in Decatur or having FaceTime chats provided by his wonderful friend and caregiver Angie Lee.  As a young adult I was so busy with my career that time was very limited to see most of my family, Jon included.  So getting this time was God's gift to me and I am so humbled by it.

We will be having his service on March 1st in Decatur, AL by the Ridout Funeral Home, 711 Memorial Dr. SW at 100pm.

Since Jon lived in Decatur for over 50 years we ask that in lieu of Flowers, contributions in his name to The Centers for the Developmentally Disabled North Central Alabama, Inc. (CDD NCA) 1602 Church Street SE Decatur, AL 35601 256.350.1458 .
