Obituary

Funeral services for Joe Williams, 86, of Moulton will be Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 1:p.m. at Moulton Baptist Church with Dr. Jesse Reeder and Dr. Darryl Wood officiating and Elliott Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 11a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the church with burial in Moulton Memory Gardens. Mr. Williams passed away April 30, 2012 at Decatur General Hospital. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy P. "Pat" Williams, his parents, Grady G. Williams and Maude A Williams, his siblings, Grady Williams, Lanette Little and Ralph williams. He was a graduate of Chilton County High School, Clanton and Alabama School of Business. Mr. Williams moved to Moulton in 1961 as an employee of Bank of Moulton. He served in a management position with the bank and was elected to the board of directors in 1965. The board elected him President/CEO and board chairman in 1968. He retired from the bank in 1986. Mr. Williams was a two-term president of the Moulton/Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce; served on the Moulton and Lawrence County Industrial Development Boards, and was instrumental in obtaining financing for the George C. Wallace Industrial Airpark. He was a active member of several professional and civic organizations and was chosen Lawrence County Citizen of the Year in 2000 by the Chamber.Mr. williams was a World War II veteran serving in the U. S. Navy. He is survived by one son, Benny Williams (Patsy) of Moulton, one grandson, Hunter Williams of San Francisco, Calif; sisters, Christine Childress, Mary Sue Melton; brothers Marcus D. Williams, Ray Williams and numberous nieces and nephews. Mr. Williams was a member of Moulton Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. He served as deacon for over 40 years and was given the highest honor by the church when he was named a "Life Deacon" in 2009. Pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Moulton Baptist Church, directors and employees of Bank of Moulton/Colonial Bank and the City Hall coffee drinkers. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to ministries of Moulton Baptist Church, 755 Walnut St., Moulton, Alabama
