IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julie Hess
Boyer
October 7, 1955 – February 7, 2023
Julie Mae Hess Boyer was born October 7, 1955, in Decatur, AL to Willie Clarence Hess, Jr. and Reba Jamie ("Sallie") Barker Hess. She passed away unexpectedly at the age of 67, Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, AL. There will be a graveside on Sunday February 12, 2023 at 2:00PM at Decatur city Cemetery with Ridout's Brown- Service Funeral Home directing.
Ms. Boyer was raised in Morgan County Alabama in a family with 4 children. She was a graduate of Austin High School and the University of Alabama in Huntsville, receiving a BS degree in Mathematics in 1981.
Julie, who was also known by her family as "Myrt", was a retired employee of the Boeing Corporation. The bulk of her career was spent working on NASA space projects where she was an active participant in the development and launch of several successful missions. She received multiple awards and recognition for her contributions. A lover of music, Julie sang and played piano for personal enjoyment. She was happiest being around her family – both her immediate family, and also her cousins on the Barker side of the family. In her later years, Julie was the primary caregiver for her mother, Sallie, who passed away in 2021. A person of deep, but quiet, faith, Julie was a Christian whose daily regimen included regular scripture study. One of Julie's favorite activities was going "across the river" into Limestone County and exploring her mother's family roots. Her love of planting and growing flowers was an extension from her mother's green thumb. She also was an avid follower of tennis, watching Grand Slam events for hours. Julie loved her nieces, nephew, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She always had time to spend with them, and they reciprocated by returning their love for her. She was the person who always made the birthday cake for all of the family birthdays. Her special icing and decorations were a hit with everyone. She will be missed by all of her family.
She is survived by Sisters Jody Hess Brewer, Becky Hess Johnson and Husband Johnny. Brother Sam Hess and wife Pam. Several nieces and nephews and Great nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the personnel who cared for Julie at Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care.
