Obituary

Mrs. June Roberts Coleman, age 85, of Florence, died Sunday evening at her home. In 2003, Mrs. Coleman was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, and in spite of the debilitating nature of the illness, she never complained or wanted any special treatment.

The graveside service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Sheffield Oakwood Cemetery. Rabbi Nancy Tunick will officiate. The family will receive visitors at their home after the funeral.

Mrs. Coleman was born in Mutual, Okla., the youngest of twelve children.

While living in Memphis, she met Erwin, her husband of 58 years, because they both had family in Florence and would carpool together. They settled in Florence and raised their family here.

She was a member of the Muscle Shoals District Service League and was an active member of Temple B'nai Israel for 55 years. She loved her weekly Mahjong game with Ken Wolf, Susan Gebhardt, and daughter, Stephanie. She enjoyed cruises and vacations with family.

She is survived by her husband, Erwin Coleman; children, Joel Coleman and wife, Salli, of Louisville, Ky., Michele Coleman Olive, of Atlanta, and Stephanie Coleman, of Florence; grandchildren, Evan, Matthew, and Eliza Coleman; stepgrandchildren, Ari, Eli, and Ben Mazer, all of Atlanta, Ga.; and nieces, Nancy Nelson, of Dallas, Texas, and Kathy Weinberg and husband, Rob, of Ithaca, N.Y. The family would also like to recognize longtime friend, Syblil Abroms.

Pallbearers will be Ken Wolf, Phil Abroms, Robert Adler, Mark Cassells, Mike Barnes, and Howard Zeff.

The family would like to recognize the long-term care given by daughter, Stephanie, and also thank caregivers, Vikki Counts and Jewel Scott, the staff of Mitchell-Hollingsworth, Hospice of North Alabama, Dr. William A. Hobbs, and Dr. Natividad Stover at the Kirklin Clinic, Birmingham.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, NY, NY 10163-4777 or Michael J. Fox.org.
