Obituary

Karen Hill Leavitt, born November 26, 1959, passed away peacefully surrounded by love. She lived a life defined by kindness, strength, and a deep love for others.

Karen was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend whose life centered on her family and her faith.

She is survived by her four children: Brooks F. Towery; Sylvia T. Carroll (Joe E.); Emily T. Carmichael (Laurence); and Hill C. Leavitt; her precious grandchildren, Eli and Olivia Carroll; her sister, Mary H. Armstrong (Donnie); her niece, Mary Rachel Armstrong; her uncle, Robert M. Hill Jr. “Bob”; and many extended family members and dear friends who were blessed to know and love her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Fitzgerald Hill and Sylvia T. Hill.

Karen graduated from Coffee High School as a member of the Class of 1978. She attended the University of North Alabama, where she was crowned Miss UNA and was a proud member of the Phi Mu sorority. These years reflected the warmth, spirit, and genuine connection to others that would define her life. She later transferred to the University of West Alabama, where she earned a degree in Exercise Science.

Karen was a pioneer in the health and fitness movement in the Shoals area during the 1980s and 1990s. She had a servant’s heart and a passion for helping others, spending many years teaching and encouraging those around her to live healthier, fuller lives. Her energy, compassion, and ability to connect with people left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She truly never met a stranger. Her sense of humor and infectious laughter could light up any room, bringing joy and comfort in every situation.

A woman of strong Christian faith, Karen’s life reflected her trust in God. This gave her strength, guided her steps, and was evident in the way she cared for those around her.

Karen’s resilience and determination to overcome any obstacle were unmatched. Her legacy lives on through her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
