Keith Alan Holmes, 58, died peacefully on July 20, 2010, after a lengthy and brave battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA), a rare and debilitating neurological disease.
Keith leaves behind in life his wife, Tina Hughes Holmes; son, Oliver Bradley Holmes (Sara); mother, Gladys Holmes Southwick; sisters, Wendy Holmes Clark and Beth Southwick Osborne (Terry); and special brother-in-law, Eddy Hughes (Teresa).
In death Keith joins his daughter, Mary Abigail Holmes; and father, Oliver Wendell Holmes.
Keith''s wife Tina was his reason for living. Their love transcended all life''s trials and challenges. His son Brad was his pride, and his daughter Abby was his joy.
Keith attended the University of Alabama and graduated from UNA. He was a proud supporter of the sports and scholarship programs of both universities and loved tailgating and attending games. Nothing made him happier than to be chosen for membership in the Red Elephant Club and UNA Sportsman Club. He cherished his Saturday golf games and his Wednesday night card games.
Keith was of the Catholic faith and sent both of his children to St. Joseph School. He and Tina were heavily involved in both the school and the church at that time. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Keith''s legacy will live on through the staff of his company, each of which he loved and cared for as his own.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Lyman Mitchell, Amedisys Hospice Service and special nurse and friend Claudia, Dr. Bill Meckes, Dr. Lee Nichols, Dr. R.J. Webb and the Palliative Care Unit at ECM Hospital, Babe Blackstock, Tim Roberson, David Wilson, Jimbo Townsend, Goodloe Pride, the Wednesday night card group, and all who supported Keith in his battle against MSA.
Keith will be honored in a private family service. His family asks only that you take a moment to appreciate your friends and family and the time God has given you with them. Let those that you love know how much and never take a day for granted. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Abby Holmes Memorial Scholarship Fund, care of the University of North Alabama Foundation, UNA Box 5113, Florence, AL 35632.
