Obituary

Landa Thornton Ellsworth, 80, of Rogersville died Tuesday, July 24 th , 2018, at her residence.  Landa was surrounded by her son Cristopher and her daughter in love Angie Casteel.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 28, 2018, from 1-3 PM at Rogersville First Baptist Church.  Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, with Brother Brandon Raney, Brother Bertis Ray, and Brother Rick Ellsworth officiating.  Burial will follow at Civitan Cemetery.  Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family.

Mrs. Ellsworth was a graduate of Lauderdale County High School, Athens State College with a BS degree in Business Administration, Internship with the Department of Defense as a contract specialist in Defense Contracting. Landa was featured in the New York Sunday Times in 1958 as the winner of a contest for the "Typical American Girl" and was a Redstone Rocket Pin-up on two occasions.  Landa was an original member of the "Marshall Rockettes, 16 girls chosen to represent the Marshall Space Center in Huntsville.  MS degree in Government/Industry Contracting, Graduate School for the study of Psychology graduating in 1995.  She served as counselor at Rogersville Baptist Church for three years.  Landa studied with the Baptist Board of Missions and became a member of the Mobile Baptist School of Language, teaching English language and counseling internationals with any difficulties transitioning into the United States. Landa was also an accomplished vocalist and artist painting many beautiful paintings after she and her husband retired to Dauphin Island, Alabama.

Mrs. Ellsworth was preceded in death by her husband Charles "Chuck" Ellsworth, parents Villard A. "Doc" and Wilma C. Thornton.

Mrs. Ellsworth is survived by her sons, Stephen Thornton Casteel, Cristopher Dale Casteel (Angie); Step Daughter, Leighann (Ron) Lockamy, Granddaughter, Madison Lane Casteel, Step Grandchildren: Jennifer Reese, Kate (Henrik) Mattsson, Trent (Emily) Ellsworth, Julie (Graham) Wimberley, Drew Ellsworth, Laura Ellsworth, Mary (Tyler) Merrill, Zach (Kristen) Roberson, Blake Roberson; Step Great-Grand Children: Mack Wimberley, Adeline and Sawyer Ellsworth, Mack and Hawk Wimberley, Theodore Ellsworth and Reeder Braden Roberson; Brother, Stephen Foster Thornton, Niece, Bridgette Suzanne Thornton, Nephew, Derek (Elenore) Thornton; Great Nieces and Nephews: Payton, Grant and Griffin Lamon, Nate and Pierce Thornton.

Pallbearers will be: Stephen Casteel, Cristopher Casteel, Derek Thornton, Pat Kelley, Rick Ellsworth and Griffin Lamon.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacon Body of the Rogersville First Baptist Church.
