Obituary

Larry Lafayette Gautney Sr., of Killen was born January 27, 1923 and passed away on Saturday April 23, 2011 at the age of 88. He was a graduate of Lauderdale County High School and Alabama School of Trades in Gadsden. He worked as an appliance technician for Sears before retiring after 39 years. Larry was the first president of Killen Lions Club, and a life long member of Killen United Methodist Church. He was the mayor of Killen when the town was incorporated and was instrumental in bringing city water to Killen. He also served and protected our freedom during World War II, in the South Pacific and was a veteran of the Navy. Mr. Gautney is survived by his wife of 65 years Mary Olivia Gautney, sons Larry L. Gautney Jr. (Nancy), Russell L. Gautney (Linda), daughter Laura Houke (Hank), four grandchildren, Tim Gautney (Martha), Laura Black (Bill), Amber Lentz (Matt) and Haley Houke. Great grandchildren Will, Gracy, and Caroline Black and Elizabeth, Isabella, and Gabriella Gautney. Three sisters also survive Mattie Lane (Ralph), Bessie McCabe, and Jean Meyer. He was preceded in death by parents L.E. Gautney Sr. and Laura Crow Gautney, and brothers, Elmer, Robert, Lindon, and Glenn Gautney.
