Larry "Keith" Davis, age 60 of Florence, passed away Friday January 24, 2014 after a sudden illness. Visitation will be Tuesday January 28, from 12 Noon till 2pm. at Elkins Funeral Home of Florence with services at 2pm in the Chapel. Jamie Cooper will be officiating. Burial will be private at Pettus Cemetery in Lexington.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm E. and Blanche M. Davis.
He is survived by many loving cousins, friends and fellow sports enthusiast.
Keith was a Christian with a faith that honored God. He had his own subtle sense of humor and magnetic personality. He was instrumental in helping many students get sports scholarships. He is a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County. He was a graduate of Lexington High School where he was a member of the varsity basketball team. He attended Athens State College where he served as an under graduate assistant for the men''s basketball program. He completed his studies at the University of North Alabama where he developed his radio/TV media skills and his many life long relationships that fueled his enthusiasm for sports information in Northwest Alabama. Keith will be remembered as "The Swami", who predicted the scores of ball games, and in recent years as ZTV Sports Director, Athens. He had the unique ability to remember countless scores from past games with complete accuracy.
Pallbearers will be Rick Corum, Justin Chandler, Shane Albright, Mickey Thompson, Jamie Cooper and Kenneth Neese. Honorary pallbearers will be W.H. Thompson, J.T. Weeks, Billy Owens, Gerald Murray, Roy Williams and Mike Stutts.
A special thanks to Dr. Bartmess and staff, Shane and Angie Albright, and to those friends who cared and made his life better.
