Funeral for Laverne Owens Tapscott, 95, of Decatur will be Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chris Shelton and Dr. Bobby Green officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Tapscott, who died Sunday, June 6, 2010, was born November 28, 1914, in Alabama to Albert C. and Mollie Owens. She was a licensed cosmetologist and owner of Tapscott Grocery for 25 years. She was a longtime member of Lebanon United Methodist Church in Speake and Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Decatur since 1986. Mrs. Tapscott was preceded in death by her husband, William Draper Tapscott; seven brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include one son, Robert W. Tapscott Sr. (Anna); grandsons, Robert W. Tapscott Jr. (Julie), William J. Tapscott (Julie) and Gregory A. Tapscott (Lee); and nine great-grandchildren.
