Mr. Leon O''Steen Darby, 91, of Florence, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Mitchell-Hollingsworth.
The funeral service will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Abundant Grace Church, Sheffield, with Pastor and Special Friend Steve Pochop officiating. The casket will lie in state in the church one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Sheffield Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Elkins Funeral Home Saturday from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Mr. Darby and his brother Alvin operated Darby''s Shell Service Station in downtown Florence over 45 years. He was a charter member of the Independent Methodist Church, Florence, and had been attending Abundant Grace Church. His love for the Lord was evident throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife Irene Lee Darby, parents Leon Henry Darby and Mary Belle O''Steen Darby, and brothers Marion and Alvin.
O''Steen is survived by his daughter and the love of his life, Babs Cornett, Muscle Shoals; grandson Gregg Shelton and his wife Elizabeth, Florence; great-grandchildren Darby, Bayley and Bria Shelton; niece and nephews Ginger Butler and husband Bob, Madison, AL, Buddy Darby and wife Betty, Carson, VA and Bob Darby and wife Karen, Boston, VA; numerous family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Billy Smallwood, Leon Wesson, Bobby Cox, Darby Shelton, Billy Howard, and Kevin Webber.
