Mrs. Leona Atkinson Ringelstein, age 101, of Florence, Alabama, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. The family will hold a graveside service at Greenview Memorial Gardens in Florence, Alabama on Saturday March 3, 2012, at 11:00am, with Elkins Funeral Home and Ellis Coats directing. There will be no public visitation. Mrs. Ringelstein was preceded in death by her husband Herman Ringelstein of Florence, Alabama, and was a life-long member of Stony Point Church of Christ in Florence, Alabama. Spanning over five living generations, Mrs. Ringelstein remained in good health and maintained an active lifestyle with her family. She leaves two remaining children, Tess Ringelstein Ramsey (and husband Doug of Florence, Alabama, and Mazie Ringelstein Jeffries of Florence, Alabama. Mrs. Ringelstein was preceded in death by four of her children including Doris Ringelstein Nix (and her late husband Lomac Nix) of Florence Alabama, David Bennett Ringelstein (and wife Martha Ringelstein who resides in Florence, Alabama), Granville William Ringelstein of Florence, Alabama, and Margaret Ringelstein Whitten (and late husband Carl Whitten) of Florence, Alabama. She also leaves fourteen grandchildren, Leigh Ramsey Simmons of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Eddie Ramsey of Florence, Alabama, David Ringelstein II of Birmingham, Alabama, Todd Nix of Florence, Alabama, Kristi Nix Sockwell of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Gary Utley of Birmingham, Alabama, Mike Utley of Florence, Alabama, Jonah Utley of Avon Colorado, Brett Jeffries of Florence, Alabama, Brian Jeffries of Florence, Alabama, and Blaine Jeffries of Florence, Alabama, Darlene Ringelstein Dahl of Phoenix, Arizona, Teresa Ringelstein of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and Charlie Ringelstein of Leighton, Alabama , numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Ringelstein enjoyed hosting family at her home on Cloverdale Road and was an avid quilter which included spending wonderful time with her late twin sister Viola Atkinson Goines. In her later years, Mrs. Ringelstein lived at Montreat Apartments and for a few recent months, Mitchell-Hollingsworth in Florence, Alabama. The family would like to extend appreciation and thanks to the wonderful caregivers at both facilities. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Mary Alice Brackin and her staff of Montreat Apartments who provided wonderful support and Southern Care Hospice, especially Elizabeth and Amy who took wonderful care of Mrs. Ringelstein.
