Lorene Sandlin Phillips Decatur
Lorene Sandlin Phillips, 88, passed away at her home Friday, March 25, 2011.
Mrs. Phillips was born February 5, 1923, in Walker County to Monroe and Ila Sandlin. After graduating from Dora High School, she met her handsome sailor-man, Albert. They married on August 12, 1944 and enjoyed 63 years together until his death on October 6, 2007. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Nadrene Sandlin, and a brother Howard Sandlin.
Mrs. Phillips loved her Lord. She and Albert were very active in Empire Baptist Church for many years. Upon moving to Decatur, they continued their service through the 16th Avenue Baptist Church as long as health permitted.
She loved and was loved by her neighbors and many friends. She had a smile for everyone.
Survivors include her daughter, Gaynell King (Jim); granddaughter Kristin Carroccino (Michael); two great-grandchildren, Caedmon and Mirella Carroccino; and one brother, Winfred Sandlin (Marie).
Pallbearers will be Michael Carroccino, Rusty Davis, Reeder Davis, Ken Nelson, Bill Nelson, John Sandlin and Carl Smith.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 27, at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home. An 11 a.m. graveside service will be held Monday in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Roger Jenkins officiating.
