Funeral for Malcolm M. Spillers, 96, of Decatur, will be Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Gary Patton and Tim Sutton officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
Malcolm M. Spillers who died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, was born Sept. 10, 1920 in the Mountain Springs Community, Lawrence County, Alabama to Cleve and Zora Spillers. Mr. Spillers graduated from Lawrence County High School in 1937. He worked as a shipfitter in Pascagoula, Mississippi prior to his military service. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in Australia and the Phillipines during World War II. Mr. Spillers attended Anderson Business College after the war, and worked 30 years as an accountant for the Morgan County Board of Education before retiring in 1985. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and hunting. Mr. Spillers was a member of Sommerville Road Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by Cleve Spillers, Zora Parker Spillers, Henry Spillers, Gale Spillers, Maxine Spillers, Mildred Spillers, and Josephine Spillers Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Nelene Smith Spillers; two sons, Steve Spillers and Bonnie, , Danny Spillers and Celeste; five grandchildren, Amanda Spillers Sommers (Blake), Ben Spillers, Sam Spillers, Heather Spillers, and Kimberly Spillers; one brother, Norman Spillers; four nephews, Jack Spillers (Frances), Mick Spillers (Deborah), Jeff Spillers (Sharon), and Wayne Spillers (Carol).
Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society.
