Margaret Gooch Chowning age 85 of Florence passed away on Thursday June 21, 2012. Visitation will be Sunday from noon till 2pm at Elkins Funeral Home of Florence, with services in the Chapel at 2pm. Ellis Coats officiating. Private burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with pallbears being family and friends. Margaret was a daughter to two, sister to three, wife to one, Mommy to three, Granny to six and great-granny to seven, and a friend to all. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed creating beautiful needlework and quilts. She will be missed by her three daughters, Cindy Smith (Richard), Lynn Landham, and Suzy McCollum (Jeff), and her Six grandchildren, Wyatt Payne (Mendy), Rachael Hickman (Stu), Sally Landham, Hannah Wise (Jason), Nathan McCollum (Brooke), and Laura Jo Rogers (Adam). She had seven great-grandchildren, Carly Payne, Cassidy Payne, Evan Hickman, Cole Hickman, Avery Wise, Reed Rogers and Grant Rogers. She is survived by one brother, Douglas Gooch (Mary), and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Chowning was preceded by her husband James Lawrence Chowning, and two brothers, Ray and Harold Gooch. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Station 4 at Mitchell-Hollingsworth, for the loving care and attention in her last years.
