Obituary

Margie Bowling Newton, age 85, of Florence, passed away on Saturday January 2, 2010 at her residence.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday January 5, 2010 at 2 pm in the chapel of Elkins Funeral Home of Florence with Chris Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Tri Cities Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday January 4, 2010 from 6 pm until 9 pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. Newton is a graduate of Russellville High School. She volunteered at the Help Center of Florence and was an active member of Highland Baptist Church. Mrs. Newton enjoyed gardening, and sewing. She also enjoyed watching the Braves and college football. Mrs. Newton is preceded in death by her husband, Albert "Red" Newton; her son, Johnny G. Newton; her brothers, Nevon, Byrl, Dwight, Allen, and Thomas Bowling; and her sisters, Mary Frances Richeson and Bonzie Dickey.
Mrs. Newton is survived by her children, Linda N. Smith and husband Dink of Tuscumbia, and Mark A. Newton of Florence; her daughter in law, Jane Ann Newton of Nashville, TN; her sisters, Grace B. Martin and husband Kyle of Russellville, and Hilda B. Montgomery of Conyers, GA; her brothers, James E. Bowling and wife Ann of Florence, and Paul S. Bowling and wife Doris of Russellville; her grandchildren, William Aubrey Newton and wife Elizabeth of Knoxville, TN, Lindsey Brooke Sizemore and husband Jimmy of Athens, AL, and Hunter Giles Newton of Nashville, TN; her great grandson, Jackson Walker Newton of Knoxville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Denzel Martin, Garry Bowling, Jimmy Sizemore, David Bowling, Joe Montgomery, Kevin Montgomery, Dale Montgomery, Keith Montgomery, Aubrey Newton, and Hunter Newton. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. J. Patrick Daugherty, Dr. Therese Lango, Dr. Hemant K. Patel, Dr. J William Meckes, and Dr. Terence T. Hart.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of Tennessee Valley and caregivers Cindy Juelfs, Barbara Murphy, and Melanie Pigg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
