Marion Marlene James, 91, of Florence passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Elkins Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Kenneth Davis officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park.
A graduate of Sheffield High School in 1943, Marlene was active with the Muscle Shoals Board of Realtors, being one of the first women in Florence to work in the realty business. She worked for Clement Realty and Coussins Realty for many years and truly enjoyed helping people and being a realtor. Marlene was also very active at Wood Avenue Church of Christ until her health declined. She was known for her wonderful cooking and sharp wit! Marlene enjoyed going to the Gulf Coast to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Richard Lee James (Rebecca) and Robert Barry James; grandchildren, Ashlie Marlene James, Andrea Elizabeth Putre (Tony), Richard James, Jr. of Panama City Beach, Florida, Bart James (Julia) and Erin James of Franklin, Tennessee; step-grandchildren, Tara Talmage and Adam Talmage of Florence; great-grandchildren, James Overman, Sam Overman, Andrea Putre and Jack Putre of Panama City Beach; and Kalei James and Reed James of Franklin.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, L. E. James, Jr.; brothers, Travis and Willie Williams; and sisters, Juanita Sherrod, Jesse Hart, and Eloise Tidwell.
Pallbearers will be Bart James, Rick James, Tony Putre, Adam Talmage, Mark Hart and Jim Hart. Honorary pallbearers are James Overman, Sam Overman, Don Smith and Jim Wilson.
